چکیده
This study aims to examine the phenomena that occur due projectile penetration on fiber metal laminate. Ballistic testing was carried out experimentally according National Institute of Justice standards (NIJ Standard 0101.06 level III-A) using a 9 mm full-metal jacket with normal angle attack (90° target). The results showed laminate could withstand rate by penetrating first layer (aluminum plate) and second (aramid/epoxy), while last deformed form bulge. pierced aluminum plate is characterized petalling failure. Meanwhile, aramid/epoxy penetrated failure primary yarn break fiber.

An Investigation into the Deep Drawing of Fiber-Metal Laminates based on Glass Fiber Reinforced Polypropylene
Abstract Fiber-metal laminates (FMLs) are new type of composite materials which could improve defects of traditional composites in ductility, formability, impact and damage tolerance. Drawing behavior of a thermoplastic based FML was investigated consisting of glass-fiber reinforced polypropylene composite laminate and aluminum AA1200-O as the core and skin layers, respectively. The effects o...
متن کاملA model for predicting penetration and perforation of FRP laminates by 3-D impactors
Amodel is proposed for describing the penetration of a monolithic semi-infinite and finite FRP laminates struck transversely by a rigid projectile with an arbitrary 3-D shape. Relationships for calculating the characteristics of penetration and perforation (ballistic limit velocity, depth of penetration, etc.) are derived. It is showed that some typical problems of optimization of the shape of ...
متن کاملEnvironmental Effects on Mechanical Properties of Glass/Epoxy and Fiber Metal Laminates, Part I: Hygrothermal Aging
In this article, the effect of hygrothermal aging on mechanical properties of fiber metal laminates (FMLs) and E-glass/epoxy (GE) composites is investigated. First, FML and GE specimens were built using wet lay-up technique under vacuum pressure. Hygrothermal aging simulation was then carried out on both specimen types in distilled water at a constant temperature of 90 °C for 5 weeks. The resul...
متن کاملEnvironmental effects on mechanical properties of glass/epoxy and fiber metal laminates, Part II: Isothermal aging
The aim of this study is to investigate effects of isothermal aging on mechanical properties of fiber metal laminates (FMLs) and glass/epoxy composites. For this purpose, both materials were fabricated using the wet lay-up manufacturing technique under vacuum pressure. Both the glass/epoxy composites and the FML specimens were then subjected to isothermal aging (130°C, dried air) for up to 5 we...
متن کاملModeling of the Fatigue Life of Fiber Metal Laminates under Low Velocity Impact by Finite Element Method
In this study, first by using the finite element method, fatigue life of fiber metal laminates of Glare type subjected to impact was obtained and the numerical results of the model were compared with the experimental results. With regard to the very good matching between numerical and experimental results, then the results of the finite element model were generalized and expanded, and with usin...
